SouthExposure05 acrylic on 36 x 48 in (91 x 122 cm) stretched canvas, completed April 13

As I have keyed before... I do not consciously make some of the choices which are required while I am painting. That is also true for the planning or conceptual evolution of the most basic components of a painting like: composition.

Not knowing what is occurring in my subconscious I feel the choices I am making are aesthetic and emotionally intuitive. That is: while I am working and planning my first goal is to make a painting beautiful.

There are many similar compositions of the Romanesque (dark) age. This 11th century panel painting was taken from the Santa Maria del Castell de Besora which was abandoned in 1752 for a new church more attractive to pilgrims.
