The Trojans were backed up to the city gates.  Helenos Priamides, the gifted augur, instructed Aineias and Hektor to hold fast before the gates.  He counseled Hektor to make an offering for Athena of a luxurious robe and twelve heifers.  The women with Hektor's mother were to pray that the goddess keep Diomedes out of Troy.

Hektor agreed and turned his warriors successfully against the Greeks who where deterred from their killing spree.
