Seeing many Greek soldiers die, Hera returned to Olympus with an appeal to gray eyed Athena.  Both goddesses agreed to join the battle.  Athena dropped her robe and dressed herself in the armor of Zeus while Hera prepared a chariot.

As they rumbled from Olympus Hera reined up the team and addressed Zeus denouncing Ares, Kypris, and Apollo for killing Greeks.  Zeus agreed with the goddesses and gave Athena leave to do Ares grief.

Hera appearing before the Greeks as Stentor, shouting loudly as fifty soldiers, gave the warriors courage and anger.
