Meanwhile, Diomedes attacked the wounded Aineias three more times and each time Apollo threw him back.  On the fourth attack the god roared angrily and Diomedes withdrew.

Apollo took Aineias to his temple in the Trojan citadel and into the care of the goddesses Leto (Apollo's mother) and Artemis (Apollo's twin sister, goddess of the hunt and childbirth).

Apollo fashioned a phantom double of Aineias around which the Trojans and the Greeks fought.
