Aineias would have died but his mother, Aphrodite, screened him with a corner of her glimmering robe and lifted him heavenward.

Diomedes, acting on Athena's authority, leaped up and stabbed Aphrodite's trailing hand on the palm.  Icor issued from the wound and Aphrodite screamed and flung her child away.  The god, Apollo, caught Aineias and bore him off in a dark cloud.
